The Pleasures of Math
|
 The publication of two mathematics books by former cabinet minister and math enthusiast, Dr Yeo Ning Hong, proved to be a exciting experience for us. Both The Pleasures of Pi,e and Other Interesting Numbers and Are You the King or Are You the Joker? became instant hits the day they were launched. The launch was held on November 13, 2006 at the National Library Board.
The Pleasures of Pi,e and Other Interesting Numbers is written for the enjoyment of non-mathematicians and those who "hated math in school", as Dr Yeo put it. The other title, Are you The King Or Are You the Joker? is a book for parents and grandparents who are keen to teach their children or grandchildren mathematics the fun way - through playing card games.
 At the launch, Dr Yeo also gave an inspiring talk on the derivation of a number of math series covered in The Pleasures of Pi,e and Other Interesting Numbers, and then played some card games with the younger audience based on the games he had written in Are you The King Or Are You the Joker?. The launch was attended by about 250 people, young and old.

Launch of Parenting -- My Story
|
Following the remarkable success of local renowned author Youjin's autobiography, LITERATURE IS MY LIFE!, she recently launched her new diary-book entitled Parenting - My Story, which records the psychological journey of being a mother.
Youjin's new book was widely reported on and applauded in Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao, Shin Min Daily News and Friday Weekly. After a series of promotion, it has successfully hit the National Chinese Books 10 bestsellers list, and is currently selling like hot cakes!
 She has also been interviewed by local radio and television programs such as Y.e.s. 93.3FM, Capital 95.8FM, Love 97.2FM, 100.3 SPH radio channel, as well as "Good Morning Singapore" on Channel 8. Each interview was a hit with audiences. On Capital 95.8FM, she shared with listeners details about her experience of motherhood. On Love 97.2FM, she recited chapters from her new book. On 93.3FM, she discussed the importance of communication in the family. On 100.3, she lightened the hearts of her audience with her humor and cheerfulness. Finally, her appearance on "Good Morning Singapore" was pronounced a success as well.
 Despite the fact that the book launch was held during the busy Chinese New Year period in Singapore, Youjin's many faithful readers filled the event that day. Youjin herself participated in a panel discussion of the book, in the company of her special guest, Mr Lim Hongyu of Lianhe Zaobao. Her three beloved children - Yi, De and Jun - attended the book launch as well. After the family slideshow, they all interacted with the readers and had a good time.
On March 24, Youjin and Global Publishing gave thanks to the readers and held a book signing ceremony in Vivo City PageOne. All who were present received a good discount rate for Parenting - My Story and enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with the author and her guests.
